Safes & Locks
What is the difference between a Cash Rating and a Valuables Rating?
The Cash Rating of a safe, also known as its Grade, refers to the maximum amount of cash that an insurer will cover for storage. This rating is determined by the rigorous independent security tests the safe has passed. The Valuables Rating is calculated as ten times the Cash Rating. For example, a Grade 1 safe is approved by insurers to hold up to £10,000 in cash or £100,000 worth of valuables.
What certification or testing will my safe have?
All of our high-security graded safes are engineered to meet stringent European standards. They are independently tested and certified to specifications such as EN 1143−1 or EN 14450 by world-renowned, independent bodies like the LPCB (Loss Prevention Certification Board) or ECB-S (European Certification Body). This certification is your guarantee of proven security performance.
What level of insurance cover will my safe provide?
Your insurance company will specify the security rating or Grade of safe you require based on the value of the contents you wish to protect. Our certified safes range from Grade 0, which provides cover for £6,000 in cash or £60,000 in valuables, all the way up to Grade 7, offering cover for £250,000 in cash or £2,500,000 in valuables.
Does my safe meet my insurer’s requirements?
Yes. All our safes are tested to recognised European security standards, such as EN 1143−1 or EN 14450, and are certified by approved testing bodies like the LPCB or ECB-S. This independent certification, combined with professional installation by our specialist engineers, ensures you meet and often exceed the requirements set by UK insurers.
Is the safe fire-rated?
Many of our safes offer certified fire protection, with ratings ranging from 30 to 120 minutes. If you are storing important documents, data storage devices like hard drives, or other irreplaceable items, a fire-rated safe is a critical consideration.
Does the safe offer protection against water damage?
While very few high-security safes have a certified rating for water protection due to their construction, a select number of models do offer this feature. We can advise you on specialised safes designed to provide protection against damage from floods or sprinkler systems, typically for lower-risk environments.
What lock types are available?
Our safes can be fitted with a range of high-security locks to suit your operational needs, including:
High-security key locks
Advanced electronic keypad locks
Mechanical combination locks
Biometric locks are less common on certified high-security safes, as they must also pass the same rigorous attack tests as the safes themselves.

What happens if the lock fails?
Our dedicated team of in-house, specialist safe engineers is on hand to assist with any lock malfunction. It is crucial to note that this is highly specialised work that should never be attempted by a general locksmith, as it can result in further damage and may compromise the safe's security. Key points to remember are:
Batteries: If the batteries in your electronic lock are running low, the keypad will typically alert you with beeps. Should they run out completely, the batteries can be replaced easily from the outside without affecting your code.
Keys and Codes: We can cut new high-security keys on-site. If you lose a code, our engineers have the expertise to resolve the issue without damaging the safe.
24/7 Support: You are always welcome to call our support line at 01223 654 757 for immediate assistance.

What internal and external dimensions are available?
Each Grade of safe is available in a variety of sizes to suit your specific requirements. While higher-grade safes naturally have thicker walls and a more substantial construction, our extensive range ensures you can find a suitable model, whether you need a compact safe for a small retail office or a large-capacity unit for a bank vault.
How heavy is the safe?
The weight of a safe is directly related to its size and security rating. Our range is incredibly diverse, with compact models weighing as little as 8kg and high-security commercial safes weighing over two tonnes.
Does it need to be bolted down for insurance validity?
Yes. To ensure the safe performs to its certified standard and to satisfy your insurance policy, it must be professionally anchored according to the manufacturer’s specifications. Our engineers are trained to install safes securely to various surfaces, including concrete floors and brick walls, guaranteeing a compliant installation.
What is the warranty period for the safe and the lock?
Depending on the manufacturer, your safe and its lock will come with a warranty of between two and five years. To provide complete peace of mind, we also offer bespoke service and maintenance plans. These plans provide comprehensive cover for faults and user issues that may fall outside the standard manufacturer's warranty.
Are spare keys, codes, or lock replacements available quickly?
Yes. Our nationwide team of specialist engineers can cut high-security keys on-site, ensuring minimal disruption. We can also provide expert assistance if a code is lost or a lock needs replacing. This prompt, professional service is designed to restore your security as quickly as possible.
